ANNUAL INFORMATION STATEMENT (AIS)

AIS is a detailed statement which consist of purchase, sale transactions, saving account interest, etc. Information is available in aggregate and individual wise.

AIS is an app which help Taxpayers to have an access towards their information like dividend income, refunds, TDS, TCS etc. So, it is also called as Taxpayer Information Summary (TIS)

Indian Government maintains all details of taxpayers for a particular year with AIS. This app is launched by the IT Department to have a clear information status to taxpayers.

AIS will make taxpayers to view AIS & upload feedback.

 

OBJECTIVES OF AIS:

  1. Disclose complete information & collect feedback from the taxpayers.
  2. It eliminates underreporting of income by the taxpayers.
  3. Identification of non-compliance from the taxpayers.

 

DIFFERENT TYPES OF INFORMATION IN AIS:

PART-A:

It consist of general information like Taxpayers name, Date of birth, Address, PAN, Aadhaar Number, Contact details of taxpayers, Mobile number, E-mail etc.

PART-B:

TDS/TCS information: Information about TDS on salary & FD interest etc.

SFT information: Interest from Savings Bank Account, units of Mutual Funds etc.

Payment of taxes: It consist of Advance tax & Self-Assessment tax.

Demand & refund: Information of outstanding demand of previous years & refund credited in financial year.

Other information.

 

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AIS & TIS:

AIS shows information in detailed also includes monthly data, whereas TIS shows consolidated information as summary which helps taxpayers in filing returns.

 

PROCEDURE TO CHECK YOUR AIS:

Steps to be followed to know AIS data are as follows:

Step 1: First you need to login to income tax e-filing portal.

Step 2: From ‘Services’ tab select Annual Information Statement from the given list.

Step 3: Then you’ll see a pop-up redirecting you to select one option i.e. “Proceed” option.

Step 4: Now select AIS option twice. Then select relevant financial year to view AIS.

Step 5: Now you can download AIS either in PDF, CSV or JSON format which is password protected.

Password format: Example PAN is AAAPD1234G & DOB is 11-03-1995 then the password is “AAAPD1234G11031995”

                                                             OR

Taxpayer can directly install AIS App in play store. To have an access towards AIS app, we need to register using PAN   & DOB along with Mail & Mobile number registered in Income Tax portal. We receive 2 different OTPs to the given mobile number & mail. Now set MPIN then login.
